Marmara Region is located in north western Turkey. Istanbul of Turkey’s most important historical cities are located in this region.
The vegetation in the region resembles the Mediterranean climate plants. The most common plant species in the region is makid.
Cities
Two important cities (Bursa and Istanbul) that host many historical monuments are located in this region. Bursa was the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Istanbul was the capital of both the Byzantine and the Ottoman Empire. For this reason, there are many monumental structures for both Muslims and Christians in these two cities.
The other cities in the region are: Balıkesir, Bilecik, Çanakkale, Edirne, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Tekirdağ ve Yalova
Climate
Although the Marmara region seems to have the characteristics of the Mediterranean climate, it has different characteristics with the impact of the Marmara Sea and the Bosphorus. Therefore, The Marmara Region is a transition area between climate zones. In general, the climate of the Mediterranean climate and the Black Sea climate is dominant. The cold and rainy weather of the Black Sea and the warm weather of the Mediterranean follow each other. This region is under the influence of cold-rainy air mass coming from Black Sea and Balkans in winter and warm and rainy air masses coming from Mediterranean Sea.

There are two international airports in Istanbul. These are İstanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
